Fue un per\u00edodo muy dif\u00edcil para mi esposa y para m\u00ed despu\u00e9s de tener a nuestro primer hijo. Ella hab\u00eda dado a luz por ces\u00e1rea, por lo que no le fue f\u00e1cil cuidar al beb\u00e9, amamantarlo o hacer otras tareas en casa, como cocinar.<\/p>\n

Convertirse en padres fue un momento muy feliz para los dos. Cuando era m\u00e1s joven, no pod\u00eda creer que un d\u00eda ser\u00eda padre. Aunque es una experiencia alegre, no es una responsabilidad f\u00e1cil para las madres, ya que las mujeres suelen tener muchas tareas que hacer despu\u00e9s del nacimiento del beb\u00e9. Durante el tiempo en que mi esposa estaba amamantando, pude ver que tampoco era f\u00e1cil para ella debido a su recuperaci\u00f3n de la ces\u00e1rea. Nos cost\u00f3 mucho esfuerzo cuidar al reci\u00e9n nacido; este trabajo de cuidado llenaba f\u00e1cilmente las 24 horas. Mi esposa necesitaba mi apoyo pr\u00e1ctico, moral y psicol\u00f3gico diario.<\/p>\n

Para m\u00ed tambi\u00e9n fue una alegr\u00eda, porque todo era nuevo. No sab\u00eda qu\u00e9 hacer cuando el beb\u00e9 lloraba, o si ten\u00eda hambre o estaba enfermo. Al mismo tiempo, mi esposa todav\u00eda estaba en recuperaci\u00f3n y nuestro hijo lleg\u00f3 en junio, cuando hace mucho fr\u00edo en Sud\u00e1frica.<\/p>\n

Agradec\u00ed a mi organizaci\u00f3n Sonke Gender Justice por brindarnos una licencia parental remunerada de cuatro semanas para los padres. Esto me permiti\u00f3 estar en casa con mi esposa y mi hijo para brindarles atenci\u00f3n y apoyo a mi familia. Fue especial compartir la responsabilidad con mi esposa. Ella amamant\u00f3 al beb\u00e9 y yo me encargu\u00e9 de las tareas dom\u00e9sticas, como cocinar, lavar los platos y la ropa, y ocuparme de nuestros planes. Pas\u00f3 a ser mi responsabilidad hacer todo lo necesario en la casa.<\/p>\n

Nuestro beb\u00e9 lloraba a menudo en mitad de la noche. Esto hac\u00eda que mi esposa se sintiera inc\u00f3moda, ya que ten\u00eda que despertarla y amamantarla. Yo ayudaba a mi esposa levantando a nuestra hija para calmarla y consolarla, revisando o cambiando su pa\u00f1al y acost\u00e1ndola de nuevo. Tambi\u00e9n le daba leche extra\u00edda mientras su madre dorm\u00eda.<\/p>\n
