Thangam, Vijayasundaram e seus tr\u00eas filhos.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Vijayasundaram, aos 42 anos, como muitos de seus colegas, costumava beber durante e depois de seu trabalho em uma planta\u00e7\u00e3o de ch\u00e1 no Sri Lanka. Ele gastava seus ganhos em \u00e1lcool, sem fazer or\u00e7amento para outras necessidades ou passar tempo em casa com sua fam\u00edlia. No entanto, tudo isso mudou depois que Vijayasundaram participou dos grupos de pais MenCare realizados pela World Vision Lanka Programa de Desenvolvimento da \u00c1rea Nuwara Eliya (ADP)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Como a esposa de Vijayasundaram, Thangam, relembra: \u201cEle costumava beber todos os dias e n\u00f3s brig\u00e1vamos [um com o outro]. \u201cEle costumava sair depois do trabalho e chegar tarde em casa, mas agora ele fica em casa depois do trabalho. Eu costumava fazer o trabalho dom\u00e9stico sozinha, mas agora ele me apoia na cozinha e em outras tarefas dom\u00e9sticas. Quando estou atrasada [chegando em casa] do [trabalho no] campo, ele prepara as refei\u00e7\u00f5es e lava a lou\u00e7a e as roupas. Ele cuida das crian\u00e7as. Ele parou de beber \u00e1lcool e come\u00e7ou a economizar Rs. 300 por crian\u00e7a por m\u00eas\u201d, continua Thangam.<\/p>\n

\u201cQuando chego em casa do campo, \u00e0s vezes ele diz: 'Voc\u00ea parece cansada, deixe-me fazer uma x\u00edcara de ch\u00e1 para voc\u00ea.' E ele me faz uma x\u00edcara de ch\u00e1. Ele costumava perturbar as crian\u00e7as quando elas estavam estudando, mas agora ele me pede para ajudar as crian\u00e7as em seus estudos enquanto ele faz outras tarefas dom\u00e9sticas\u201d, ela acrescenta.<\/p>\n
