MenCare partners explain why men matter for maternal and newborn health

On August 18, MenCare partners from around the world shared their expertise in a discussion about why men’s involvement matters for maternal and newborn health. The Google+ Hangout was co-hosted with Equimundo, MenEngage and Girls’ Globe. The conversation, featuring MenCare partners from Indonesia and Rwanda, and one of MenCare’s global co-coordinators in Washington, DC, highlights the important role that fathers can play in accelerating progress for women’s and children’s health.

The event marked the 500 day milestone before the target date for achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and highlighted the crucial role men can play in the success of MDG 3 – to promote gender equality and empower women.

“It’s important to emphasize that involving men in maternal and child health has benefits for women, children and men themselves,” says Ruti Levtov, MenCare’s Global Co-Coordinator.

The panelists included MenCare+ Indonesia’s Chika Noya, MenCare+ Rwanda’s Shamsi Kazimbaya, MenEngage’s Global Coordinator Oswaldo Montoya and Ruti Levtov.
