Middle East and North Africa

In the Middle East and North Africa, MenCare partners have convened for global meetings to coordinate advocacy interventions and share best practices and lessons learned from program adaptations.

MenCare’s fatherhood and couples’ interventions have been adapted to Arabic and French for implementation in the MENA region.

Sub-Saharan Africa

MenCare’s programmatic work has been implemented in Sub-Saharan Africa and reached people in many African countries.

In Rwanda, the Bandebereho (‘role model’ in Kinyarwanda) program for fathers and couples has been adopted and scaled by the Rwandan Ministry of Health and will reach over 80,000 parents.

In South Africa, MenCare’s advocacy initiatives led directly to improvements in paid leave for mothers and fathers.

From Ethiopia to Namibia and across the region, our work with men and boys has transformed gender norms to promote positive, involved fatherhood.

Europe and Central Asia

Across the region, MenCare partners work to support active caregiving that is free from violence.

From Bulgaria and Latvia to Turkey, campaign posters and videos break down negative stereotypes about men and caregiving by depicting images of positive fatherhood.

In Portugal, materials in health centers inform patients about parental leave legislation and the benefits of involved fatherhood.

From Sweden to Russia, our partners’ work with fathers, couples, and health professionals aims to advance gender equality and family wellbeing at both the individual and institutional levels.

Asia Pacific

In the Asia Pacific region, programming, media, and advocacy work are adapted in eight countries. A moving film from Sri Lanka tells the story of a father who becomes the primary caregiver to his children, while his wife works abroad to support their family.

In Indonesia, our partners work to prevent gender-based violence and collaborate with the health sector to engage men in maternal and child health.

In India, group education is transforming fathers’ attitudes toward child marriage, while in Vietnam, religious leaders are integrating content on gender equality and domestic violence prevention into their premarital programs.

Americas

Across the Americas, MenCare partners have worked to engage thousands of men in active fatherhood in Latin American countries. In Brazil and Nicaragua, powerful films tell the stories of men who are acting as role models in supporting men’s involvement in the family and in helping men who have experienced violence and sexual exploitation to heal. From Guatemala to Chile, work with the health sector has led to positive institutional changes supporting men’s involvement in pre- and post-natal care.
